Germany 2015

Today I took a nap right after breakfast because I was tired, and I knew I had a lot of walking to do in the hot sun. Turns out it was about 6.5 hours of walking. Whew! My feet and legs were very tired by the time I got back to my room on the second floor, which is what you find after climbing two flights of stairs (ground floor, first floor, second floor).

Trier is the oldest city in Germany and Roman ruins abound. I saw one of the places where ruins of a thermal bath are still being slowly excavated. Fascinating!

The Dom (Cathedral) is spectacular.

And so is the Liebfrauenkirche.

And the Porta Negra.

This sphere is in the Basilika. It says: “Christus spricht: Ich bin bei Euch alle Tage bis an der Welt Ende.” (I’ll let you unearth what that means.) 🙂

In the last two days, I’ve been asked by three people who didn’t speak English for help in finding places. Does that mean I’m doing a good job of not looking like a tourist? It felt satisfying to give the native French speaker answers auf Deutsch. (I was also complimented by a fellow traveler yesterday who told me I spoke German very well.)

Definitely enjoyed my stay here in this little city! Tomorrow I’m off to the Rhine River (I think).
