I imagine that’s a question a few people might be asking of me.
Well, I spent a week in Hamburg with a wonderful family and new friends. Monday and Tuesday I toured the city. Wednesday and Thursday I spent in my room (mostly) at my host family’s house battling a strong head cold and fatigue. All the napping and vitamin C did wonders, though, so that on Friday, I was able to go into town again to meet up with my friend Sarah, her brother, and their friend.
The plan was to find the crane in the harbor from which people bungee jump. (Yes, I was along to “hang out”, but in the normal way, not dangling from a bungee cord over the Elbe River.) After much walking – apparently we took the indirect route – we found the place but it was no longer open. So we meandered back to the city center and found a restaurant near the Rathaus to have dinner. Then we walked around town a bit more before parting ways on different buses.

I got back early Saturday morning, soaked from walking from the bus stop in the rain. (My umbrella was safely tucked away in my bag in my room.) After a short night’s sleep, I left Hamburg and headed for Mannheim, where I’m visiting Jasmin and spending time reconnecting, meeting her family and friends, and finding out what life is like for her on this side of “the pond”.

I’ll be in Mannheim until Monday. And then … ?????
(I’ve still got a couple of days to decide where to head next.)
